The Bonie Doon brand of hosiery was established in America in 1957. The brand name has Scottish origins – with “Bonnie” meaning beautiful, and “Doon” refers to a river in the south-west of Scotland.
From the onset, the aim was to provide superior quality, fashionable hosiery at a reasonable price.
In 1969, Bonnie Doon expanded to the Netherlands, quickly taking the European market by storm.
In the seventies, knee socks became extremely popular. A the time, however, European manufacturers offered limited colour ranges. Bonnie Doon hosiery provided the answer – by firstly offering an extensive range of colours, and secondly by utilising orlon, which is a super-soft acrylic fabric. This combination helped to establish Bonnie Doon among other well known hosiery manufacturers at the time.
During the eighties, the high dollar value eventually resulted in Bonnie Doon Europe setting up its own factory, creating an entirely unique product line along with its own design team.
During the nieneties, Bonnie Doon Europe started exporting all over, while expanding their range even further.
Currently, Bonnie Doon hosiery is available online in many countries, but also in many dedicated boutiques worldwide – and even in a number of European department stores.
Three years ago, Bonnie Doon was established in South Africa – in the form of a single outlet on the West Coast. Considering the cost of physical expansion, however, the decision was made to take the brand online in South Africa – to ensure that it is accessible to everyone.
Bonnie Doon hosiery is known for its superior quality, and unique ultra-soft “feel”. It is truly in a league of its own – try it and decide for yourself.
